On Wednesday, October 27 th Kapalaea/Sunny side, met Hanalei
Bay /Dawson Intl. Hanalei edged Kapalaea 5 to 4. On Friday the 29th, Racetrack
met Kapalaea, and at the end of the 6 th chukker, Racetrack had the advantage 10
to 7. The finals were set, Racetrack and Hanalei, earning a trip to Sunday's
game.
Racetrack's 2 goal advantage proved to be too strong, the
tournament being played in the Open, and from the first chukker, Hanalei was
playing catch up. H. L. DeCoite played a brilliant game, thus earning the MVP of
the finals. And with Marcelo Abbiatti's strong performance at number 3, their
lead was never threatened. As the final bell rang in the sixth chukker, the
score was 7 to 3 in favor of Racetrack.
John Torres General Manager of Paradise Beverages,
distributors of HEINEKEN beer, awarded the winners the coveted Maui Cup, as well
as some nice embroidered directors chairs with the colors of the Maui Polo Club,
Yellow and Black.
In the spirit of Halloween, Dick Tuell awarded Umpire Andrea
Viannini a gift box with Made in Maui products for best costume, as he umpired
the game in his Rastafarian dreadlock and hat costume.
On behalf of the Maui Polo Club, I would like to thank all the
volunteers that made it possible to have a smooth day of polo and fun, you are
too many to mention, and I would not want to leave some names out, you know who
you are, Thank You!!!
And a Special Mahalo to John Torres!!!
