Our twenty second annual Oskie Rice Memorial Cup was, as always a great success. A great cool upcountry day set the stage for an awesome day of polo.
Kaonoulu Ranch , after 4 hard chukkas of polo, took home the "Champagne Cup" .It was a close game throughout the whole afternoon. There was never more than 1 or 2 goals difference.
Congratulations to Knox Weymouth on winning the MVP award!! He played well above his handicap and he deserved to have his name inscribed among some of Maui Polo Club's greatest players.
On behalf of the Club, I would like to say once again Thank you to the Rice and Peterson Families for Sponsoring a great day of polo that has become a tradition, a must see game, at Maui Polo Club.
3-6 USPA Sherman Memorial 2002
Makawao, Maui, June 9th. 2002.
2 days of great polo were the setting for Maui Polo Club's second USPA sponsored tournament of the year , the Sherman Memorial. 3 teams entered the tournament, and a round robin format was followed.
After the Friday round robin, all teams had a good chance of winning the tournament. Continuing play on Sunday, after 6 great chukers of arena polo, Maui Mountain Cruisers had the edge, with two wins and no losses. Although they did not look to be the strongest team on Friday, great individual efforts by all 3 players on Sunday proved to be more than enough to take home the coveted Sherman Memorial award. Congratulations to all players that participated, and especially to the champions!!!
Coming up: The Manoa Cup, on Fathers day.
